MiriTint is a free tool for seeing what automotive window tint will look like before you have it installed. It applies a film's shade, hue and reflectivity to photos of a car and shows three angles side by side.

Why it exists

Tint is expensive and time-consuming to undo. Yet when you choose, all you usually have to go on is a number — "35%", "15%" — and a small sample card on a shop wall. Deciding from the number alone and then finding it darker or lighter than expected is common.

Comparing shades on the same car, at the same angle, under the same light makes the choice far easier. This tool does that in a browser.

How it was made

• The car photos are derived from photographs taken by the operator. No manufacturer press or configurator imagery is used.
• Film is applied by live calculation, not by swapping between pre-tinted photos. The glass pixels are recomputed for whatever shade, hue and reflectivity you pick.
• Glass areas were mapped by hand per window, so the windshield, front sides, rear sides and rear glass can each be set separately.

Limitations — stated up front

The screen is not the real thing. Please read this before relying on it.

• Colour and brightness are approximations. A real installation varies with the specific film, the tint of the glass itself, the lighting when viewed, and your own display settings.
• No legality judgement is made. Legal limits are shown as reference information, but whether a given combination is permitted is not assessed. Rules differ by country and, in the United States, by state.
