Before you book: a checklist
Once you have a shade and a hue in mind, the next stop is the installer. A little preparation keeps the appointment from ending in "just do whatever you think is best."
1. Lock in the combination first
Decide all four windows. Write them down, or set them here and use the share button to make a link — opening it reproduces the exact combination, which is easy to show on your phone at the shop.

2. Questions to ask
Product
- What is the exact product and line? A brand name alone does not identify a film.
- Is the quoted VLT the manufacturer's published figure, or the shop's own?
- How is authenticity verified — hologram, warranty card, serial?
- Is it metallic? If so, how is transponder and GPS interference handled?
Legal
- What will the measured VLT be after installation — glass and film combined?
- Will you measure it with a meter afterwards?
- Will it pass periodic inspection?
Workmanship
- Is curved glass heat-formed? Cutting relief slices and laying multiple pieces leaves seams.
- Do you remove door trim and lower the glass to reach the top edge?
- How long does it take?
Warranty
- Term and coverage — discolouration, bubbling, peeling, adhesive failure?
- Will you redo it if bubbles or dust remain? What is the threshold?
- Is the warranty issued in writing?
3. Before the appointment
- Wash the car and clear interior dust — it makes for a cleaner working environment.
- Think about where your transponder, dash cam and mounts go; they come off during work.
- Empty the cabin — trim removal needs room.
4. Right after — this is normal
- Haze and water-like patches appear as installation moisture dries. It clears over several days, sometimes two weeks or more, depending on humidity and season.
- Do not lower the windows for the period your installer specifies — the edge will shift before the adhesive sets.
- Clean the inside of the glass only with a soft cloth, and not for a few days.
5. Check once it has cured
- Even edges — film reaching the glass edge, no lifting
- No trapped dust or hair (look from several angles in bright light)
- No creases crossing the rear defroster lines
- Each window is the shade you ordered — walk around the car and check
- Mirror and rearward visibility at night is something you can live with
If you find a problem, report it within the warranty period, with photos. Later on it becomes hard to separate an installation fault from wear and tear.
